Rotary is not just for its members. Rotarians' families are also a very important part of Rotary life and many of our Social activities include our partners and our children. The development of friendships within the club is a highly valued outcome from these shared social activities and helps to improve the clubs performance. In fact its all about building fellowship and adding fun.
Our club organizes many different social activities and these are advertised on our current diary page. In the past these have included Theatre trips, Skittles and Bowls evenings, Murder Mystery Dinners, Rambles, Walks through the local countryside, Punting in Oxford. We also organise weekends away in England and trips around Europe too. Below are a some photo's showing us enjoying ourselves socially...
Annual Walking Weekends
Our club has been participating in an annual walking holiday for the past five years. They take place over the May Bank Holiday weekends and have become more and more popular with members and their families as each year goes by. Laurie Cunningham, our first president, organizes the holidays and we are very grateful to him for all his hard work and time spent planning these wonderful weekends away.
Our first walking weekend took place in May 2001 in Tallybont-on-Usk, Clewyd and was so enjoyed that a second trip took place the following May in Harlington, Derbyshire. In May 2003 the group explored the walks around Exford, Somerset and we all enjoyed the walks so much that we also returned to Exford the following year.
In 2005 we visited the pretty town of Church Stretton in Shropshire and enjoyed a different walk each day. In 2006 we travelled to the Welsh borders and spent a wonderful holiday in Montgomery, Powys.
The weather was superb and we all came back with a healthy glow. This year we have just returned from a great Bank Holiday weekend in Rutland Lake. We stayed in the market town of Oakham and were once again blessed with great weather.
Below are some photos from our recent walking holidays and we do hope they have captured the fun and fellowship that we have all experienced on our annual walking holidays.
